Suniti’s enthusiasm for conscious capitalism has underscored her every academic and professional pursuit. Highlights include graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, with merchandising stints at the houses of Zac Posen, Rag & Bone, Launch Collective, and Olivia Miller.

Returning to India in 2013 focused her energy towards impact. In the last decade, her role as Brand Director helped build Border&Fall––a creative agency and digital publication––for seven years from the ground up. Whether through documenting craft at grassroots, profiling designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, or incubating first-mover and legacy brands in their hour of need, Suniti has been instrumental in championing the country’s top talent.

Her most recent full-time role involved leading communications for Swadesh, an artisan-forward multi-category brand within Reliance Retail’s portfolio. As a labour of love, she co-authored Hidden Kingdom, a children’s book written in verse––supported by a grant from National Geographic––whose readership spans 15 countries. She has also taught Luxury & Fashion Management at MBA-ESG, a Paris-based business school with campuses in India.

Lighter is an evolution of Suniti’s trajectory, where she intends to continue shaping culture and navigating the intersection of profit and purpose.

    What makes you lighter?

    Waking up in faraway places.

Who We Are

A collective of light-minded creatives synthesising strategy, storytelling & design in an approach that's lighter, happier & more productive.

Our studio has three wings: as a service, we consult on brand strategy, identity, communication, and experiences. On another end, we produce writer-focused original content for print, film and television. And finally, we are invested in sharing a monthly newsletter of thoughts on subjects that are important to us as creatives, in the hope of contributing to the larger community.

Nandini is a screenwriter who trained at the Oxford School of Drama, where she realised if she wanted to see flawed, funny characters from “emerging countries” on screens worldwide, she may have to write them herself.

Cut to now—Nandini co-founded Lighter to create original content from her international point of view, starting with the award-winning animated short film Spirit of the Forest, produced in collaboration with Hidden Kingdoms and Ghost Animation, and funded by the National Geographic Society.

Nandini’s been a Finalist at the Austin Film Festival; won Best TV Pilot at the Geneva Science in Fiction Screenplay Awards; as well as won the CANNESFILMS Unlimited residency—a programme organised by StudioCanal with the aim of nurturing the next generation of screenwriters. In 2025, she was awarded a grant from the French National Centre for Cinema (CNC) to develop the pilot for PUBLIC RELATIONS, a romantic comedy series she co-created that unfolds at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nandini spent several years in Stockholm before moving to Paris, where she currently lives on love and questionably fresh air.

    What makes you lighter?

Movies that make me happy or sad cry; listening to music I love on vinyl on a Sunday morning…

Through projects and retainerships, we work with brands in a wide range of industries and across various stages of business.
